Memorial Day weekend in Gatlinburg & Outdoor Resorts!

When you take a vacation to Gatlinburg you probably have a favorite hotel on the Strip you like or favorite cabin in the mountains that you book for your stay. We have our favorites too, but we decided to stay somewhere a little different this weekend.  That somewhere is Outdoor Resorts.

In case you're not familiar with Outdoor Resorts, it's a gated RV resort that has about 400 spaces available. No tent camping is allowed on the property. There are lots for sale and lots with RV's for sale. It's not a timeshare situation.  You own the lot. There are also spaces available for rent if you have your own camper. Rates are $40 - $45 a night depending on if  you want a creek spot or not, because there are a couple of creeks that run through the property.  There are some people that are full time residents there. Several different people also rent their RV's out nightly. We went the option of renting an RV from someone there. Rates for that are $65 and up nightly.
Although it was just my wife and I, this is a perfect spot for those with children too! There is a snack bar on site (open in summer months), as well as a laundromat, bath houses, game room, adult activity  room, lake for fishing (catch & release), putt putt golf, 2 pools (one is adult only), basketball court, tennis court,  children's play ground, and shuffle board court.

On this weekend they had a craft fair on Saturday and Sunday featuring hand made items from local artists.

As far as activities,  on Saturday night they had a 50's carthop night! This was really cool! The had a large parking lot area in which most people there would drive up to in their golf carts. If you didn't have a golf cart, they had picnic tables to sit at. But for $5 per person you got  a dressed hamburger,  fries, can drink, & milkshake!
They also had 50's trivia for prizes as well as a hoola hoop contest for prizes for children and adults alike. There was also a dJ there playing 50's music and there was a lot of dancing going on! They topped the evening off by having a showing of the movie GREASE. This was an awesome night of fun for everyone!
On Sunday night there was a bonfire. You could feel free to roast marshmallows or if you had a musical instrument, bring it along and join in on the playing or just sing along with others.
Those that own a spot there say it is a little piece of "Heaven on Earth". Truthfully it really is! There's no way you can visit here and not just fall in love with the place! There's also no way you can visit and NOT make friends. We love it and plan to be back very soon, and who knows, we might just buy us a lot here!
If you would like to find out more about this place and for rental information you can visit their website www.orgtn.org

We did a lot this Memorial Day weekend and I've yet to scratch the surface.  Stay tuned as I'll blog later about all the attractions, restaurants, and businesses that we shopped at!
